K-5 STEM Author Visit

NASA is going *back* to the moon with Artemis. Do your students know about the first time? Do they know the Apollo 11 story?

In this 30-minute K-5 STEM author visit on Zoom, students will

meet the author of 400+ books for children, teens and adults
hear 3 STEM picture book poem read-alouds
learn how a book is made
ask questions
with printable mini-comics for each book *and* the author’s bio

I’ll talk about writing my first book when I was eleven and writing for my own (K, 1, 5, 6) students when I taught school full-time.

We’ll relive the first moon landing with Man on the Moon.

We’ll find out how a skyscraper is made in Up! Up! Up! Skyscraper.

We’ll see electricity move from the power plant to the city in Wired.

Then we’ll use our hands to act out the entire process of making a book–from putting on our thinking caps to assembling the book after the pages are printed. (Yes, the pages of a book are printed out of order!)

For our question and answer session, I’ve created a printable mini-comics library. (You can share them with your students before or after our time together.) After I read the FAQ mini-comics for these 3 STEM books, I’ll open up the session for more questions.

Q. How do I schedule a 30-minute Zoom author visit?

Schedule a STEM author visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 8:30-11:30am Pacific Time. That’s 9:30am- 12:30pm Mountain Time, 10:30am-1:30pm Central Time, and 11:30am-2:30pm Eastern Time. *The booking calendar app will only show your time zone.*

Q. What happens if a time conflict arises later?
A. The calendar app will send you the Zoom meeting codes when you schedule your 30-minute Zoom author visit. It will also send you a reminder the day before your session.

If you sign up for an author visit and need to cancel *before* the session begins, please be advised that I charge a $20 handling fee for cancellations. If you are unable to host your session at the time you selected, please click on the Reschedule button in your Zoom meeting code email and set up another time. Thanks.
