AUTUMN 2023

Writing a Small Poem

What is the story? I don’t like waking up in the dark, but that’s what starts happening every September before autumn officially arrives on the 22nd. The sun comes up later and later, as seen in this photo by Federico Respini).

Now it’s your turn! All this month, I’ll be writing September poems — and you’re invited to join me! Choose any poetic form you like and share your AUTUMN story poem in the comments of this September 2023 #smallpoem Challenge post. I look forward to reading it!

Anastasia, I don’t like Driving at night now since it is dark so much earlier. I like your challenge based on the photo above and your theme. I will work on my small poem. Thanks for the challenge.

I like summer… but I like autumn more. I like seeing signs of autumn on its way. Your reminds of one of the clearest signs.

I like all the laters in your poem. Yes, the sun rises later, sets earlier here, and it is noticeable. I’ll watch for a September poem and post it here!

The sun
rises and sets
later and earlier,
bookending us into winter.

I love a poetry challenge! I also love autumn, but I am not a fan of winter here in the Alps. As a southern-hemisphere creature, I like warmth and light.

I’m feeling the late sunrise these days, and though I love fall, I’m missing the early light of summer dawn. Your pairing of poem and image is lovely!

later sunrise
lets me have
more morning darkness
hours just for me
and my tea

“Later, later”, just right for fall! Nicely done for your small poems, Anastasia. Since I seem to wake very early in the morning anyway, I dread the change in time at the end of October.

I love autumn’s breezes
the way its name is fall
but I don’t like time’s ‘fallback’
and dark morns for us all

Love the repetition in your poem!

September
Let the zinnias continue to bloom,
at least for a little while,
until the chrysanthemums take over
and Fall tiptoes in.

Wonderful pic and poem, thanks for your challenge!

Sleepy September sun,
Mother nature’s stepped in
and cycling seasons…

Cheers to small poems! Sometimes the small ones are my favorites of all. Yours is like a little song we can sing on these crisp, cider-drinking days. Thank you, Anastasia…happy fall! xo, a.
