JULY

JULY

Writing a Small Poem

What is the story? Whoosh! The summer days are flying by — and it’s already July! I lived near the ocean as a child, so when I think of July, I always think of the beach — and the hot, hot sand — as shown in this photo taken by Ulrike Mai.

Now it’s your turn! All this month, I’ll be writing July poems — and you’re invited to join me! Choose any poetic form you like and share your JULY story poem in the comments of this July 2023 #smallpoem Challenge post. I look forward to reading it!

Your small poem is delightful, nothing better than cooling hot feet! Here’s a reflection of us in Denver so far! Thanks, Anastasia. Denver July

I love writing short poems and your photo and poem helps readers to feel summer. Here’s a quick short poem:

July

Hot beginning
to the second half
of a year on the way
to December.

Adorable! The words and the photo complement each other perfectly. I always try to imagine the coldest day when in the middle of summer and vice versa.

Anastasia, I am so glad that you are continuing to challenge us with creating small poems during July.

under the sun’s canopy
sizzle, write, splash

My July is being spent in recovery from surgery. I wish I could feel the hot sand beneath my toes. I may go to the beach with my daughter at the end of the month. Small poems are my thing!

sunflowers sing
silly songs
from their perch on the table

I can hear the rush of the waves coming in and the squeals of relief! What an adorable picture!

On my chin
my arms
my legs
popsicles drip

Yesterday I found half a bluebird egg in the driveway. Since a few weeks ago I discovered five dead almost-ready-to-fledge chicks, It filled me with hope.

a clean cracked egg
inspires curiosity
hoping for new life

july

big sister June gets all the attention
pomp and celebration to end
classroom days

August lays low
like a sweaty toddler
in need of a nap

but summer’s middle child
wild, untamed
makes her own adventure
