Writing a Small Poem
My book PENCIL TALK AND OTHER SCHOOL POEMS, illustrated by Susie Lee Jin, is a leveled reader published by Bebop Books.
What is the story? As you can see from the Table of Contents page, the poems are about a school day from beginning to end. As a former first grade and Kindergarten ESL (ELL) teacher, I wanted to show that the world of school could also be a part of the stories we tell. Why not?
The first small poem, OUR BUMPY BUS, is about riding to school on the bus. For many students, the bus is where their school day begins.
