OCTOBER 2023

Writing a Small Poem

What is the story? This photo by Ricardo Gomez Angel shows the beauty of fall that we see each year. Change is the only constant! That’s my OCTOBER story — and my first October #smallpoem.

Now it’s your turn! All this month, I’ll be writing October poems — and you’re invited to join me! Choose any poetic form you like and share your OCTOBER story poem in the comments of this October 2023 #smallpoem Challenge post. I look forward to reading it!

leaves fall away
death cedes

Anastasia, such a gorgeous image and I love the repetition of “changing” — the only constant — and your sweet rhyme.

Changing places
leaves me changing
the way I see the world.

Thanks for the poem and the challenge Anastasi. I’m lucky enough to be spending October in a new city, on a writing fellowship, and am finding myself very productive in the special way a change of scene can inspire.

Hooray! I adore small poems. They are truly my favorite. I will write along with you. Leaves to trees…great progression. It’s a chicken/egg situation.

The repetition in your poem works so well!

today fall entered
with a flurry of pine needles
whooshed by the wind
